AR. MA. aims at educating the next generation of experts, academics and practitioners and give them the practical experience needed for building up their professional career and academic activities within the fields of democracy and human rights.
The programme’s first semester takes place in Beirut, Lebanon and addresses four thematic areas; democracy and rights; governance, rule of law and constitutional process; political transition to democracy; international relations; and the global system of human rights protection. These thematic sections contribute to setting the ground for critically understanding democracy and human rights both in theory and in practice.
During the second semester, the students stay at either Birzeit University (Palestine), the International University of Rabat (Morocco) or the University of Carthage (Tunisia). The second semester is to research and writing the master thesis.
The AR. MA. programme creates a unique global classroom with students and an international academic staff coming from the MENA region and beyond.
The Danish Institute for Human Rights provides scholarships to students from the MENA region, teachers and courses during the first semester. The Arab Master is part of the Global Campus of Regional Masters in Human Rights and Democracy supported by the European Union.
